LEGO appears to confirm arrival of Donkey Kong Arcade Machine with new teaser

LEGO has confirmed the rumors about a new Donkey Kong theme. In a short video on Instagram, the Danish company shows a classic Donkey Kong barrel made of LEGO bricks rolling across the screen. The teaser is accompanied by the text “There’s plenty more where that came from!”, suggesting that more announcements will follow soon. Although Donkey Kong has previously appeared within the LEGO Super Mario line, this teaser seems to hint at a separate LEGO Donkey Kong series.

LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade Machine

The teaser aligns remarkably well with rumors that surfaced earlier this year about a possible LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade Machine. According to those rumors, the set would carry number 72051 and be based on the classic 1980s arcade game where Donkey Kong made his first appearance. In that original game, throwing barrels played a major role — something LEGO clearly references in the teaser.

Set number: 72051
Name: Donkey Kong Arcade Machine
Theme: Super Mario
Piece count: 1,367
Minifigures: None
Release date: August 1, 2026
Recommended age: 18+

According to current information, LEGO Super Mario 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Machine will consist of 1,367 pieces and is expected to be released on August 1, 2026. The anticipated retail price is €169.99. In terms of concept, the model is expected to be somewhat similar to LEGO Icons 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade, although the Donkey Kong version will likely be slightly more compact due to the lower piece count.

LEGO choosing Donkey Kong as the basis for an arcade model is not surprising. The original Donkey Kong arcade cabinet from 1981 is considered one of the most important games in Nintendo’s history. It also marked the very first appearance of Mario, who was known at the time as Jumpman.

In the game, players had to climb ladders while avoiding barrels thrown down by Donkey Kong, all while trying to rescue Pauline. The game became a massive hit in arcades worldwide and ultimately laid the foundation for what would later become the Super Mario franchise.
